I'm so happy to read this post. I spent 16 years in Pascagoula, Mississippi and love so many people there. Thank you for sharing this journey with me. I will send it to some coastal friends down there. Beautiful pics and I learned about the pelicans too! Thank you!!!

Yes - according to Wikipedia: The American white pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) is a large aquatic soaring bird from the order Pelecaniformes. It breeds in interior North America, moving south and to the coasts, as far as Costa Rica, in winter.[2]

Congratulations on #10! You must be over the moon! I've been a bird freak all my life! We love pelicans and so enjoyed your post! Sorry about the cold snap. We're quite frosty here in eastern NC as well. Time to wear long johns!
