Dear Readers, New and Old: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You For Your Support
Shall we get acquainted?
The last eight months have been interesting, to say the least.
I retired in January 2023 and immediately began writing the
newsletter on .Starting out, I had one subscriber (moi) until I coerced a few family and friends to subscribe.
Things went slow for a while.
Lately, though, it seems that the newsletter subscriber base is growing exponentially. More than 2/3s of the readers of this newsletter have subscribed in the last 3 months.
Recommendations, Restacks, and Cross-posts from other writers have been a major source.
More than a few of these writers have helped me tremendously with things like style, process, technical issues, content, and just plain encouragement in addition to their recommendations of this newsletter.
A short list of these great writers are
and too many others to keep listing here. Each writer has their own unique style and area of interest, so please give them a “look-see”.
You can also checkout the Substack Browsing feature to find your next great read. Many newsletter subscriptions are free, just like this one.
I don’t know exactly what attracted you to come on board, whether you are a personal friend or relative, you liked a particular post, or maybe you thought the newsletter title was interesting.
And just for your information,
will always be a free subscription.Whatever the case, I just want to shout a heartfelt thank you.
I keep a post on the main
site called In Case You Haven’t Read the About Page. This is not a repeat of that, but besides being a heartfelt thanks for subscribing, this is also a quick down-and-dirty of who I am and why I’m here. The goal of
is to write or produce stories (fiction/non-fiction), articles, and the occasional longer essay on a variety of subjects.Just right up front, most of what I write is from a Christian perspective. I am a husband and Dad. For the last 10 years, I have been Pops to a growing cadre of grandkids, numbering nine at last count with #10 due in January.
So, why
?Well, first and foremost, it’s a simple play on my name.
More importantly, I just turned 70 in January of this year and have seven decades of stuff in my brain that has been “chomping at the bit” to be “uncorked”, so to speak.
When you have lived this many years, you have stories and lessons learned that just maybe someone on the road behind you needs to hear.
I have always wanted to be a writer when I grew up. So when I retired in the same month as my 70th Birthday in January of this year, it was a “now or never” proposition.
My goal is to keep it interesting, with a variety of stories from “days gone by”, short fiction, allegorical tales, and articles on things of interest.
I grew up in the South Carolina Lowcountry. After High School, I joined the Navy which took me to a lot of places around the world. So, that perspective will weigh in from time to time.
Also, before and after I married, I lived in numerous states. We have now retired in the Upstate region of South Carolina, so there’s that.
Bottom line, you will find entertainment as well as some more serious discussions here.
With all that being said, I would love to hear a little from readers, if you feel comfortable enough to share.
Do you also write?
Where do you hail from (Country or state).
What sort of things do you enjoy reading?
How did you hear about Life UnCorked?
What a privilege this has been. I look forward to interacting more with readers as time relentlessly marches on.
At your service,
Cork, August 2023.
Thanks for the shoutout Cork! You’re a wise man and I’m grateful that your retirement has been so fruitful.
And congratulations on the newest grandchild! Praying for health and wellness for mom and baby!
10 grandchildren! What is in your gene pool?! Congratulations on your subscriber growth. Thanks for the mention. We share a love of writing and Christianity!
