For the last few weeks, I’ve put out a series of posts about Kicking the Conformity Can. These focused on the Principle of Personal Transformation - understanding how we got to the place we are and beginning to understand that change is possible, no matter the demographics. Your can read these post in order here.
The Three Interactive Gears of Personal Transformation: Education, Action, and Motivation
Today’s post is a quick overview of the Process of Personal Transformation.
A simple acronym/formula to remember this process is:
T = E + A + M
Transformation (Principle) = Education+Action+Motivation (Process)
We’ll dive into the deep end of each of these gears in the coming weeks.
Today, just a brief overview of their importance in transformation process.
First, they don’t need to be in a linear order.
But, just like in a precision watch, they all need to be present and interactive for the process to work.
Missing any one of them will slow down or stop the process or even lead us in a misguided direction.
For example, if we don’t understand how we got to where we are in life and never learn what we (personally) need to do in order to change our ourselves or our circumstances, no amount of action and motivation will work because we don’t know where we came from or where we’re going.
Or, if we educate ourselves and are motivated to do something about our situation, but don’t have an action plan, we are pretty much dead in the water.
Finally, if we are educated about our situation and have a course of action, but do not stay motivated to follow through, we will eventually fizzle out.
Bottom line -
We need to understand who we are, where we are, where we need to go , and how to get there
We need to have an action plan for getting there
Finally, we need to build in motivational stops along the way to keep us focused on the goal
Preparation: What it takes to make the process work
In the next few articles, we’ll cover Education which is the most crucial element of the process. We can’t even start if we don’t know that we need to change or how to go about it. So, we must start here.
Then, I will lay out a series of articles on the action steps (which, by the way, includes the education and motivation steps). So, you can see right off how interactive these elements are.
While each of these is relatively simple, they are not always easy. That’s why staying motivated is so crucial in the process. In the final few posts, we’ll look at the difference between what constitutes real motivation and fluff.
Hopefully by this time, there will be a good understanding of the process, how to accomplish the process, and what we can do to keep the process going.
And you will be able to construct a plan that you can adapt to your own situation and make some real progress.
Finally, know that I have greatly benefited from constant personal application of this process. It is never ending - there’s always room to growth and improve.
Although this process is objective in nature, it is subjective in its application. So, anyone can adapt and benefit no matter your background, age, or personal circumstances.
Next week, we’ll take on the whole subject of education, which is much more that just learning facts.
King Solomon, called the wisest man who ever lived (apart from Jesus, that is) talked in the proverbs about education having 3 parts: wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
So, that’s where we’ll start.
Until next time friends . . . Stand By.
