Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour - 1 Peter 5:8
This post was inspired by
, who uses his nature photos, particularly those of birds to write daily devotionals for. Thank you, Brother.Yesterday, I was reminded of the scripture above, when my wife and I were out by our garden area and observed a vigilant Eastern Bluebird protecting his mate in their nesting box.
It is fascinating that an instinct to protect one’s own is built in at all creature levels.
Except in rare circumstances, Bluebirds mate for life. There are usually two, sometimes three broods per season. Once they choose a natural nesting area or nesting box, they return each season until they die.
The male spends much time perched atop or near the nest to keep watch against other birds and small animal predators.
When the eggs are hatched, both adults take care of the newly hatched brood. Sometimes, even the young of previous broods will pitch in.
Almighty God, our Creator, and Savior, thank you for your faithfulness in watching over us and protecting us from harm and circumstances we know nothing of and cannot discern.
Continue to give me the desire and wisdom to be the husband, father, and grandfather you desire me to be, faithfully protecting those you have entrusted to my care. Thank you for giving me the gift of faith to trust your guidance when I cannot see a clear path.
Let others see Jesus in me.

On of my favorite birds. I love the season when they finally start coming back around. Thanks for this, Cork.
