The Writers Circle: Beth Yarbrough - Southern Voice
Highlighting Writers On My Blogroll - Check them Out & Give Them a Shout
I had only been on Substack for a few months when I found Beth Yarbrough's newsletter, Southern Voice. The post I saw was a story called A Bite to Eat: Fine Food At The Filling Station.
It was about finding “the holy grail of fried chicken” at Bobops Famous Chicken while on a road trip to St. Simons Island, Georgia.
The restaurant, more aptly a counter and a few formica-topped tables, was inconspicuously situated in the back of a Marathon gas station in Estill, South Carolina.
My kind of place.
This story highlighted Southern food & culture right here in my Beloved State. I subscribed on the spot and have been reading Beth’s stories ever since.
Beth is a prolific writer and photographer who publishes several times a week documenting the uniqueness of Southern culture - the people, the places, and the peculiarities, many of which I am familiar.

Southern Voice is such an interesting writing. I enjoy it much. Her book on restoring old houses was enlightening as well - available on Amazon. I'd like to visit that gas station!
Thanks so much for the kind words:-))) I say this often, but it's the truth - the South writes her own stories. All I did was show up:-)
